I have build a new system with the P5GC-MX motherboard, installed a fresh copy of windows XP (service pack2)... then I have started installing all the drivers for the motherboard from the provided support/drivers CD.

After installing all the drivers the sound card was not working...
Then I have updated windows, after running a number of windows updates the sound card is still not working...

I have no other software installed on the computer (no firewall or antivirus software)...
Does anybody know what could be the problem? Is there some other software that I have to install?

PS: there is some sound coming out from the speakers if I open the realtek HD audio manager and click on test I get sound through my external speakers...

Download from Microsoft website a patch file and install it on your computer KB888111 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111)

After the patch file installed, please go to device manager, delete the realtek hd audio controller, then refresh, the windows should find the realtek audio controller itself, and search the driver, Please just let windows search the driver by its own. Once the driver was re-found or reinstalled, maybe you need a restart of windows (driver ask you do that), check if you can get correct sound from lime port.

There is no download option in the link given by you.
Could you please tell me where can i download the patch for windowsXp or vista32.

Another solution to the problem is:

When you first time install the sound card drivers, and the Windows – ‘Found New hardware wizard’ window comes up, DO NOT click anything in that windows, it will disappear by itself when the installation software is finishing installing the driver!

Thank you all guys for you response. I did'nt have front panel speakers in my old cabinet so had to change the cabinet. The other option was to use a jumper to activate the back panel speakers. And I used no hotfix during the driver installation..
