Gphx Card BLues

Hi There,

I installed a AGP geforce6800GS into my computer, and the nvidia toolbar gave me the message that it was lowering power as I had not attached the supplementary power on the device (as indeed I hadn't) I powered down, and then attached the PCI power unit off the powersuppy (450W)and powered up again. Nothing happened - the computer gave power to the cd, the keyboard, mouse, but did not bring the monitor out of powersave mode.
I then realized that perhaps I should have connected the different power supplement (2*4pins from the psu into a 8-pin input into the graphics card) nothing happened, same response.

With the old graphics card, the same response - no beeps from the mboard, no bios.
I should also say that I had used rivatuner to do a softquadro on my card, but it booted once after that - (which is when the low power on card message came up.)
My assumption is that I've cooked the motherboard - its a d865 intel Perl. Any suggestions - I can't use onboard graphics, as I don't have the right inputs, but I think it's not getting to post anyhow.

Hi,

OK, try the following to reset the motherboard (sometimes it happens when you don't get a signal to the monitor but the computer is powering up, all I do is rest the motherboard or power it up with no other hardware installed)

1) Power down and open the computer (don't forget to remove the power cable from the back)

2) Reset the BIOS by changing the jumpers on the motherboard (look up your motherboard manuals for instruction on how to do that). If you don't know how to do this step or not sure, just skip it...

3) Remove all your attached hardware from the computer (graphic card, sound card, RAM...) and unplug all your USB devices... connect only the monitor cable, mouse and keyboard.

4) Power up the computer for few seconds, if the computer beeps that good it means it could not find RAM or graphic card in your computer.

5) Reattach all your hardware that you have removed from your computer, change the BIOS reset jumpers back to original position and power up the computer. It should work now. Go to the bios and check all you’re setting...

PS: I would also upgrade the power supply to something like 550W

Hope that’s help...
