Motherboard

The LED turns on and the fans start up in my computer yet the monitor recieves no signal, neither does the keyboard or the mouse. I have checked the connections and tried restarting many times. I have been told by colleagues that my motherboard may be fried. If so how can I tell and can it be fixed?

David, I would do the following to test if the motherboard if it is fried...

1. Make sure that your keyboard is working (don't worry about the money at the moment you don't need to connect it at this time)
2. Remove all hardware connected and installed on your motherboard (including ram, just live the CPU connected)
3. Power up the computer. It should make a beeping noise as the memory is not installed.
4. Install one memory stick and connect the monitor and keyword.
5. If at this point the computer in not showing signs of live, install a new graphic card and disable the onboard graphic card. (also you can try swapping the memory banks)
6. After doing the above test and the computer is still not working there are only two components in your computer that could be malfunctioning. It's the CPU and motherboard...

If the motherboard is broken / fried, go and get a new one... they are selling from $90 to $400 (it is not worth fixing a existing one)

Hope that helps...
